Contrary to its name, ringworm is not a worm, but a fungal skin infection, which causes a ring-like rash with patches of scaly, reddened skin. At the same time, the skin in the center of the rash remains healthy-looking. The rash usually appears on the scalp, feet and groin. This condition is highly contagious and it is passed between people through direct skin contact.
