Birthmarks

Birthmarks are mostly harmless markings on the skin that appear at birth or shortly after. The two most common types of birthmarks are vascular birthmarks, that are caused by an excess of blood vessels, and pigmented birthmarks, that are caused by a cluster of pigment cells. They can be either flat or raised, and may range in color from light pink or red to tan, purple and black. Birthmarks are mainly nonhereditary and can occur anywhere on the skin.
